Dog Jack (DVD)

If you are looking for great story and good Civil War movie to show your whole family, I would recommend Dog Jack. With all the junk out there, this movie stands head and shoulders above most of what's currently available in family fare. The movie has an exceptional story and acting. I did some research on the story and discovered there was an actual historical Dog Jack who was a hero during the Civil War and much honored as a mascot by his PA regiment. The movie version has won several awards at festivals around the country. The movie should provide a great springboard for discussions about the Civil War and slavery. If you are just looking for something to tickle your kids, then look elsewhere. But if you want something that will stay with you a long time and convey some powerful lessons in courage and loyalty, then I highly recommend Dog Jack.
