Really like this set! It did have a little oil on the dumbbells. I put them in the tub and rubbed them down with dawn dish soap and washed them off and then dried them with an old towel. That got 95% of the oily feel off them. I put a big fan on them after that to air dry them and they feel fine now. I'm unsure about the tower as I'd preferred it be more of a A frame, but so far this seems to be stable. They look great and even out of the box had only a light smell. If you read reviews of other sets, almost every set now, people complain about an overly bearing chemical smell. One of the reasons I went with this brand as it seems to have the fewest complaints of a smell. And it really didn't have much of one when I opened it out of the box.
It did have a little bit of the oily stuff on it, though, as I explained.
The 5 pound way is really too light for me. I would've preferred that it be more than 5lbs. But, I'm not at a 25 lb weight yet or more, and really the 20lb is my max I wanted. The 10 and 15lb are good for me.
The set is higher than some of the other ones, but I didn't want to risk the smell.
Also, this comes in 1 box, 110lbs, so if you order for delivery, chances are it will get damaged.
Why I canceled my online order for delivery and went to the store. The employee had to get help, as it is not on the shelf at most stores. It is in the back. If the app says they have it at a store, but it's not on the shelf, get someone to help you and check the back.
Also, unless you are super strong, lifting 110 box with no grips and in the heat, is gonna be near impossible. Ask the customer service desk for help, they will get an employee to help load, or two of you can't help lift it.
When you get home you can take them out of the box and do one by one or two by two.
The sides slowly peel up, then you can slice the top open, that way you don't ruin the box.
Since you'll want to make sure everything is inside. If it's not that way, you can return it.
The tower is on the right side or left side of the box. In a very narrow box. You will have to assemble it. It is actually surprisingly stable and strong once you assemble it. Not the strongest, but it's not flimsy either.
When I opened it and took the weights out, I thought the stand was missing at first. The stand is in the box to the side. It's really not a very big box.
It was a little more than I was wanting to pay, but it's a great deal compared to all the other sports stores I checked around town.
I did see a few sets $20 or $40 cheaper on Walmart. But they're all for shipping.
And reading those reviews, a lot of people complain that they get damaged in shipping.
The last thing I wanted to do is to have to return 110 pound box to Walmart. That's why I went to the store to try and find one in the store so the odds that it's going to be damaged are much lower.
If I had to do it again, though, I would do it for pick up.
