If you recognize something of yourself in this music, it's because it comes from a place in Janet Sussman that is so deep and so genuine it transcends the personal and becomes universal. By itself, this would be a major achievement, but it's nothing short of astounding when you realize that Bridges was entirely unrehearsed. Janet Sussman-who has taught meditation and spiritual unfolding for the last twenty years-simply sat down, closed her eyes and began playing. Unrehearsed, though, doesn't mean unstructured. The music is presented in three intimate and gorgeously reflective movements, all bridged by atmospheric interludes whose loftier purpose is to establish the fine, high presence of universal spirit toward which the rest of the music, and all life, points. As the first section opens, it conjures the mood of a rainy day-contemplative, reflective, safe, sweetly melancholic perhaps, an ephemeral feeling for the world and your place in it. From there, a series of melodic transistions move you forward, revelation emerging out of the background and taking shape in bell-like chords, pure affirmation, with hints of the spiritual soaring to come. The second movement seems to burst with uncontainable compassion and acceptance. Changes of key are frequent yet so natural they become metaphorical, symbolizing the way change unfolds in the embrace of permanence. Again, bell-like chords herald change and celebrate it. The held-breath pause at the beginning of the third movement announces something entirely new, something very fine and elevated. Emerging from all that has preceded, these musical epiphanies take flight on melodic phrases of astonishing beauty. Everything comes together-darkness and light, grief and joy, hope and growth and realization. The final epiphany...well...just listen to it. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Janet Sussman uses transformational music as a means of relaxation and as a point of departure into a journeying process of the spirit. Her highly developed vocal skills bring the listener into a direct, primary knowledge of the chakras (human energy centers), acting as a core indicator of blockages and anomalies stored in the field.
