BattleTech: Initiative Deck

Is there a freak snow storm that abruptly blankets the battlefield in line of sight-killing flurries? Perhaps a defective armor plate on one of your pivotal 'Mechs means the next strike from an enemy weapon does more damage than normal. Or perhaps the enemy lance attempting to flank your position has a lieutenant that expertly reads the terrain and pushes his forces through quicker than normally possible.
