I got these as an alternative to my expensive Black Diamond Alpine Carbon Cork trekking poles because based on the photos and description they seemed to have identical features, from the cork handles and padded rubber grip to the carbon fiber construction and assorted tips and cages. I wanted a second pair that I could use on concrete with the rubber tips (as opposed to off trail hiking with no rubber tips ) since I am now using my trekking poles on my daily walks around the neighborhood after falling a couple of times. Having received these "knock-off" poles over the weekend I tried them out for 10 miles of trekking... I can say they are every bit as good as the Black Diamond brand and possibly superior since they are noticeably lighter, even though my Black Diamonds are also carbon fiber with cork. One huge improvement as compared to the Black Diamond poles is that these cork grips are way smaller, making them ideal for ladies or anyone with a smaller hand - they are so much easier to grip! The flip lock took a bit of getting used to as you have to tighten the screw THEN flip, making sure there is enough pressure to secure the pole but not too much to overburden the lock mechanism. Luckily these poles came with instructions and all the accessories as pictured, which comparing all the tips to the Black Diamond brand, they are identical. I also love that these are offered in the white color which is what I chose even though my friends joked whoever's coming down the trail might think I'm blind. Nope, just clumsy! The only thing I am unsure about is the longevity of the flip lock since it is plastic, but then again I wouldn't classify myself as a power user when it comes to trekking - I mostly use them for stability. I can't believe the value for under $50! I'm so excited to use these more and especially looking forward to the ease of travelling with them as I make my way through the Pacific Northwest this summer.
