the stencil for drilling holes in my wall was evidently for a larger set of shelves. The mounting brackets were 8 3/16"apart. The stencil was for a set with a 10" span between the brakets. I made the mistake of not checking first, so I had holes to patch and unreuseable hardware. The second set had no stencil at all.

Hardware is trash

The hardware was awful, so it was impossible for the shelves to hold anything without falling off. The reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 is because I decided to purchase shelf brackets and used those instead. Otherwise, the shelves would have ended up in the trash. I had to spend a little more money, but they look nice and are very sturdy with this modification.

DO NOT BUY! Not sturdy, easy to knock down. I've purchased many Mainstay products and this was the first I was disappointed with. I was expecting the type that have a separate plate with tubular supports that the shelf slid onto. These have cheap hardware that don't allow for a flush mount against the wall, are wobbly and can be knocked off the mounting screws.
