Yes, you do need an HDMI connection and there is no coaxial input, but if you read up on the products before making a decently large purchase like this, you know this going in. If you have any newer cable/satellite, apple tv, etc. you have an HDMI output and will be fine. Quality is great, cost was good, set up was easy, etc. 4 HDMI ports is extremely nice to have!
