Decent for the money, Mid-High Accent Though

Acoustic Audio CR12 Decent speaker for the money, however, it does have that characteristic high end accent caused by horn tweeters. I would probably lower the capacitor values in the crossovers for the mid and horn, the bass sounds fine. Reminds me of my 3-way RCA's I have, but with more highs. The bass coverage is decent, but I don't think 35Hz is the true low frequency, maybe 45Hz, but again, very decent for 3 ways. My only complaint is the mid to high accent which makes the speaker sound slightly unbalanced. Definitely more like a DJ PA speaker than a fine home stereo speaker. I do like that they have the "road carpet" all over them so they can take a bit of rough handling without getting dinged up too bad. They can be mounted on standard speaker stands (the plastic hole is in the bottom of these for that), they do have side handles, which is nice since they are a bit bigger than my RCAs. They do have standard push clip connection, though, would have been nice if they would have provided banana jacks instead, the kind with the thumbscrew fasteners with the through-hole in the post for 14G wire would be ideal. I have these hooked up to my Sherwood stereo, turning the treble down to flat seems to tame them some, but on some tracks, the mid-highs are still very pronounced. The bass is pretty decent by itself. For the price, i can't complain too much. I cranked them up to near max on the Sherwood amp which is 100 Watts per channel and they both worked well and were loud and had good bass. They came double-boxed. The outer box got beat up in shipping, but they arrived undamaged. They seem fairly rugged. I wouldn't drop them off a truck tailgate, but I think they would take several years of normal handling. I wish they did have an overall speaker grill to hide the rather ugly design, but each speaker is protected by a wire mesh grill, they are bass ported, which does help the bass response considerably. These would make good garage speakers where the mid to high accent would carry outdoors pretty well, but definitely not home stereo material. I'm keeping them, since finding decent 3 ways in a large cabinet is next to impossible these days. I'll move them to the garage stereo and keep my RCA's on my Sherwood instead.
