these little lanterns are so great. I ended up buying three more. I have two for myself and two more as gifts. the lighting is excellent. the first initial turns of the knob give a warm lighting that gives excellent ambience and subtlety so that you don't wake a sleeping partner. I have used my Lantern for months now, and it shows no sign of batteries weakening. if you need more light, just turn the knob a little more and your warm lighting is replaced with very bright, typical Lantern lighting. I don't think one can go wrong buying these lanterns.
