It does take 2 hands to open but can be closed with 1 hand. I used the pressure mount method versus screwing it into the door frame and my grown son was able to accidentally knock it down. But it was very easy to install and reinstall after being knocked down. When measuring the height, measure to the bottom of the doorknob if you intend to close the door behind it.

This extra tall gate has been wonderful for this pet lover. I know longer have to bend down and pick up the old gate and have to turn around with it to replace it. With this gate I just open the latch and walk on through. I do have to semi turn sideways as I am a larger person to get through the narrow opening but it is a wonderful product. It's sturdy and fits my doorway perfectly. It comes with an additional panel if you have a larger than normal doorway but I did not need to use it. I'm going to buy three more for the other places in my home where pets are not allowed. The gate goes all the way to the floor and the slats are close enough where my small dogs cannot get through. I'm very pleased with my purchase and the color black matches my home decor just fine.
