Purchased for grandson and me. It’s a very nice piece of equipment perfect for him to learn how to handle a gun and learn how to shoot. We will spent many hours together sharing great experience.

Accurate

Nice BB gun. I don’t like the gold color of the medal, ( don’t know what that’s called ) it looks cheap. But does not feel cheap. It is plastic , but the weight and the balance is great. And the firing is smooth. I can’t use it too much right now because it is below zero temps,, lol. But before that , when I used it I was very impressed with the weight , feel and accuracy of the rifle. I managed to hit a 1” wide fence post from about 40’ in my first few shots. I got this gun for fun, and so far it has been. And it will be lots more when it warms up outside

Inexpensive Backyard Plinking Pleasure

First, the looks. Anyone who isn't legally blind can see that this is a great looking air rifle. The shiny gold electroplating on the receiver, barrel band, and butt plate accents the rich dark synthetic wood stock and foregrip beautifully. The 20" octagonal barrel gives it a such a genuine look that you could hang it on your wall and everyone would think it was a real cowboy repeating rifle. But is it all show, no go? All hat, no cattle? All bark, no bite? The answer, as I found, is a definite "nope!" The accuracy out of the box was remarkable for an air rifle. I'm not the best shooter in the world but would consider myself fairly above average. The tightness of my groups at ~25 feet was downright impressive. After getting it dialed in (the rear sight is adjustable for both windage and elevation), I could cover my 5-shot (4-pump) groups with a half dollar coin. I later saw that the barrel is actually rifled and that would help explain the great accuracy. I did not use BBs at all and, after seeing that the barrel is rifled, probably will not due to the chance that steel BBs could mess up the rifling. I'm hoping to find some lead or copper-over-lead BBs to use, but I'm not sure how well they would load given that they wouldn't stick to the magnetic pin on the bolt. With one or two pumps, you don't hear much more than a "click" when it shoots. If you give it the full 10 pumps, the muzzle report is a nice loud "crack" and you can tell that it shoots plenty hard to use for varmint control if you need it for that purpose. Pumping is surprisingly easy as well. The trigger has a good bit of travel and the pull is definitely on the heavier side – but this could be seen as a positive for safety’s sake. I noticed that the bolt movement was a little stiff at first as well, but it started to loosen up after a few dozen shots. I'm hoping the trigger will soften up with use as well. The trigger break is nice and crisp. The biggest challenge I had was loading pellets into the rifle. My hands are on the larger side and it was not easy for me to properly seat a pellet on the pin. After a few frustrating attempts I started to use a pair of tweezers to load the pellets and that worked great. This is more the fault of my fat fingers than the rifle. I doubt those with normal sized hands and fingers will have any trouble at all. To sum it up, the Barra 1866 Cowboy Series Multi Pump Air Rifle shoots as good as it looks and I'm looking forward to it bringing me years of inexpensive backyard pinking fun.
