The sound part of the mat is useless, even turned all the way up; it can barely be heard. The electric shock worked but was slow to respond. My cat, at 9.29 lbs, took 4 steps on the mat, set at full strength, before it activated, and he jumped up and off the stove. It worked - he hasn't tried to jump up in that area since.
