Fabric wrapped legs?!

Why are the legs of this product wrapped in black fabric with no less than 50 staples pulling it tight? They are supposed to be painted in a finished black according to every photo on every website I looked at. The legs under this fabric aren't even painted! Nor do I want to pull out all those staples leaving holes in the wood and then have to paint them black. The black leather headboard itself is perfect, but the fabric wrapped legs ruin it. Returning.
