WD-Red 8TB Plus 5640RPM great beginner nas drive

It's a great drive for a beginner in Nas. I use the Ubiquiti Unas-2 it's a basic two bay nas that's very simply to use without a lot of features. for me this is perfect until I upgrade to the Unas pro rack mountable nas.

WD Red drives are vary reliable

This was a replacement for a previous drive that ran for 5 years. Not due to anything Walmart had responsibility for, but this drive was dead on arrival. It was in a box with no markings indicating it was fragile and it probably was mishandled during shipping.

Good but loud

Priced just a touch higher than average $/TB I had high expectations. Quality wise I can't say this drive falls short. Performance is as advertised. I just am very disappointed at the noise. Sadly WD no longer offers this drive helium filled. Per the spec sheet it's nearly TWICE as loud (since dB scale is logarithmic) compared to the helium filled model that got rave reviews. It'll do the job but for a home NAS market it's a shame the quieter offering is no longer available.
