Rogue RR100 Rocketeer Electric Guitar - Red Burst

As a beginner, I recently picked up a brand new Rogue RR100 Rocketeer (HSS configuration) on sale for just $70. Going into this, I read tons of forums warning me about terrible quality control, sharp fret edges, and sketchy electronics on ultra-budget guitars. I was prepared for the worst, but after unboxing and playing it, I am absolutely floored. Here is my honest breakdown after spending some time with it: 🎸 The Pros (Shockingly good for $70) • Ready to play out of the box: I expected to spend hours doing a setup or paying a tech. Nope. The action was totally acceptable right out of the box, and the neck was perfectly straight. • Smooth frets, no sharp edges: The biggest killer of cheap guitars is fret sprout. On my copy, the fret ends are surprisingly smooth with zero sharp edges. The ultra-thin neck profile feels amazing and fast. • Versatile HSS layout: With the humbucker in the bridge and two single-coils, it handles everything. I can play clean pop, blues, rock, and punk. It tackles every style I throw at it. ⚠️ The Only Real Issue • Massive tonal imbalance between pickups: The output difference between the bridge humbucker and the single-coils is pretty drastic. Switching between them mid-song feels a bit jarring and "weird" due to the volume drop and tonal shift. (Note: Since I personally don't use the whammy bar at all, this pickup imbalance is the only quirk I have to manage). 🛠️ Longevity %26 My Final Verdict A lot of people worry about the hardware life on a cheap guitar. Honestly, electric guitars are just wood and simple electronics. As long as you wipe down the strings after playing to prevent rust and keep it in a gig bag away from crazy humidity, this thing will easily last 3 years without a problem. It feels sturdy. My biggest takeaway: The guitar dictates the playability, but the AMP dictates your actual tone. The hardware limitations of a $70 guitar can be easily masked by a good amp. Do NOT pair this with a $20 toy amplifier; it will ruin the experience. Instead, save money on the guitar and invest in a quality smart/modeling amp with a built-in compressor and Bluetooth backing track support (like a Positive Grid Spark MINI or a higher-end digital Blackstar). A great amp will clean up the signal, balance out the pickup volume differences, and make this $70 axe sound like a $500 rig. If you get lucky with the QC like I did, this is the ultimate budget steal. Highly recommended for anyone starting out!
