The VermiTek Plus worm compost bin converts the kitchen food waste from your kitchen into organic fertilizer for your garden. The VermiHut Plus is a step-up version of the internationally well-known VermiTek worm bin. It's easy to use, Just fill a working tray with worm bedding, red worms and food scraps. As the worms finish composting, they will migrate upward into the tray above, leaving rich castings behind. In ideal condition, 2lbs or 1 kg worms can consume 1lb or 0.5 kg of food scraps per day on average. A 5-tray worm bin can house 10 lbs or 5 kg of worms. Therefore, it can help to reduce 5lbs or 2.5 kg of food scraps per day. The VermiTek Plus provides the perfect capacity for household food waste management.

Really pleased with the quality of this system
I'm very happy with the quality of this product. This is sturdy, and dead simple to get up and running. They even provide most of the bedding needed for getting the first tray started. The lid fits down tightly, which helps prevent escapees. Nice instruction booklet included, with clear instructions and many tips. This is my first swing at worm composting, and I felt pretty confident about having it set up right after reading the booklet. One week in, worms seem pretty happy! The trays were rather compacted together from the shipping process, I set them in the sun for a bit and they came apart much easier after the plastic warmed a little. This is shipped from the vendor, and it arrived FAST. It may seem like a healthy chunk of cash, but it's very comparable to similar systems. Doing the math on what I spend for soil amendments, as well as my desire to make those kitchen scraps useful, I think it'll end up costing me far less in coming years for healthy beautiful plants. I wanted the five tray rather than a smaller system so that I could continue composting thru the winter with less need to fuss with trays. You DO need to buy the worms separately, if there is not a local source for red wigglers (don't use nightcrawlers!) the internet is your friend. I bought 2lbs of red wigglers from an established company in Florida, they use 2 day shipping so my worms traveled almost across the entire country but arrived alive and healthy. This is apx 2,000 worms - which sounds like a lot I know but is actually a good amount to get the system popping. 1,000 worms would certainly work, just might take a little longer to consume scraps until they increased their population. Patience is not totally my thing...

Heavy duty plastic...came with all the fun extras and very helpful instructions. I also watched a you tube video/review prior to buying which helped with some set up/management tips. The worms are in and seem happy. I would recommend it and I would buy another if I had a need. Of all the worm towers out there I liked the design of this one the best.
