This gate is retractable. It lets my cats out while it keeps my dogs in. Im talking about my room. I close the gate because I don't want my dogs in my room they tend to love my bed. At the same time I love the fact that I leave my bedroom door open so that my cats have access to my room. I bought this gate before for the upstairs. The installation was very simple. The installation on this gate however was difficult. Eventually I got it done. I highly recommend this gate to those who have small children and animals.

I bought this just to use at night to keep my pets from wandering down the stairs. The gate and price is fine for that use. I would recommend one of the metal baby gates if this were something that I was opening and shutting constantly as it isn’t as easy to open as the metal ones. The handle isn’t centered so you need both hands to open it.

Not what I had hoped

I was very disappointed. I bought this to keep my 15 pound cocker spaniel out of one room in the house. She can jump on the gate and it will open. When it retracts back it is very hard and slams into the doorway. If it were being used for a child or baby I would be terrified of them being hurt. My fur baby was able to jump back and not get hurt. It’s also not the easiest to operate. The bottom of the gate struggles to latch and unlatch when trying to enter or exit. If I had kept the box I would have returned it.
