The lid closes slowly unless lifted to the wide-open position. The wide-open position is useful for when standing over the can, scraping potatoes or carrots. The foot pedal works for most uses. I use standard 30 gallon bags in it. I haven't got around to trying the pack of 20 gallon bags which came with it. The first time I propped the lid fully open, the underside of the lid looked like a mirror. The top of the lid isn't that reflective, but stlll an improvement over the old plastic can it replaced. I'm quite happy with it.

This 75L/20 Gallon Rectangular Step Can Silver is very nice. It is the largest kitchen trash can I've ever owned. I didn't think I could find trash bags that large, to fit this can, but I did. I found some on the internet and they fit perfectly. Because this trash can is larger than any I've previously owned, I make less trips to the dumpster now. My dumpster is down a hill and in the alley, so that is not a pleasant trip to make to put the trash bag into the dumpster. This is a very attractive trash can and goes along with my stainless steel kitchen theme. This trash can has really nice features like the no-hands step petal at the bottom front of this can. It makes it easier to dispose of things when your hands are full. I cook and bake quite a lot, so my hands are full quite often. Another great feature is the lid that slowly closes all by itself. I really can't imagine a trash can that is of better quality for my kitchen. This trash can is extremely easy to use. I use a stainless steel cream to clean the outside of this can, so it's always shiny and new looking. I love this trash can and it's a useful addition to my kitchen. I have already told numerous friends and family about how wonderful this trash can is. I highly recommend this trash can.
