VN Infinite quality 8-2 UF-B cable is an underground feeder and branch circuit cable built for direct burial and outdoor wiring, supplied in a 25 foot length with two insulated 8 AWG solid copper conductors in black and white plus a bare copper ground. UF-B is rated for direct burial without conduit, so one trenched run can go from the panel to a shed, garage, well head or yard light instead of assembling a conduit system. This 25 foot length covers a short trench run from the house to a post light, a pump or an outdoor unit without leaving a large remainder. The solid gray PVC jacket is molded around each conductor rather than wrapped, so ground moisture has no path to travel along the cable, and the jacket resists sunlight, so the same run works underground, along a wall and up an exposed post. This cable is rated 600 volts, and its ampacity follows the NEC 60 C column, which puts 8 AWG copper at 40 amps for well pumps and pressure tanks, outdoor air conditioning units, workshop and outbuilding circuits, pond and fountain pumps and barn wiring. Wire it as hot, neutral and ground on a 120 volt circuit, or as two hots and ground on a 240 volt circuit by re-identifying the white conductor at both ends with black tape or marker. The cable is cut from a continuous roll with no splices, has a flat profile that pulls easily through a trench and staples flat to joists and studs where it runs indoors, and strips with a standard UF or NM cable ripper. Bury to the depth required by local code, protect the cable where it leaves the ground and use connectors listed for UF at every box. Long runs lose voltage, so check voltage drop before settling on the gauge.
