Since they were new and I wanted to take them out for a test run I tossed in some insoles but they have built in cush, not the cheap stuff that is like paper after one use, these are foot clouds basically with just enough give. What I love and have never found in a shoe yet is the split tongue fans slightly, doesn't rub up against you at the opening, and with the hoop that holds the laces against the shoe and not your foot (and looks super cool!), it may be the first time getting hiking shoes without a bonus of terribly placed blisters that makes the next week of walking not very enjoyable if you like your feet in all of it's skin! These are the kind of bottoms that will last for many years, I have had similar but since then shoes have improved in design so quickly. I tend to walk where I wear out the back heel on the soles, not with these but it isn't a hard unforgiving material either. I may have found my brand for life! Jump on these while you can, and when you can't, just walk away into the sunset ha! Yes, these are all they claim at half of the price you'd spend in an athletic outfitters store. I just am so delighted to have these as a purchase that I never want to misjudge and end up a mile down the trail with blisters on the balls of feet, twists, or worse! These will not fall apart if you or your family are active, they have shock absorption, are weatherproofed, so go for winter run, my only regret is that I did not have them last early winter when I took a header on the ice! Not this year, or the next, or the next, or....
