I got this 2 pack of 12 inch white hanging planters because I have a covered porch that gets great morning sun but my old hanging baskets were a mess. Water would drip through the bottom every time I watered them, leaving dirty puddles on my porch floor. Plus I was tired of climbing a step stool every two days to water because the small baskets dried out so fast. The first thing I noticed when I opened the box is how clean and modern these look. The white is a bright, crisp white that makes my porch feel fresher. The 12 inch size is substantial without being overwhelming. Each planter comes with two types of hangers: a set of three chains that hook onto a ceiling hook, and a set of rigid metal arms that let the basket stand on its own on a flat surface. I used the chains for hanging and kept the arms as spares. The self-watering system is what sold me. Each planter has a visual reservoir at the bottom that you can see through a clear strip on the front. The reservoir holds a surprising amount of water, maybe a quart or so. You fill it through a small opening on the side and a wicking system pulls water up into the soil as the plant needs it. My ferns went from needing water every two days to every eight or nine days. That alone was worth the purchase. The drainage holes in the inner basket are well placed. Water doesn't pool on top of the soil but the soil stays evenly moist. I tested the reservoir by overfilling on purpose and the excess drained out through an overflow hole near the top instead of dripping down onto my head. Finally, a hanging basket designed by someone who actually hangs baskets. My only complaint is that filling the reservoir takes patience. The side opening is small and my watering can spout barely fits. I ended up using a squeeze bottle with a narrow tip to get water in without spilling. Not a deal breaker, just a little fiddly. The white plastic looks great now but I'm hoping it doesn't yellow in the sun. One planter is in direct afternoon light and after a few weeks it still looks new. Fingers crossed it stays that way. Perfect for anyone who hates constant watering or has a porch that doesn't appreciate dirty drip marks.
