This dress is super cute and comfy. It is roomy and has some stretch to it. I love it and ordered two more! I got a 2X- I usually were that size and it is roomy without looking too big. You could always size down if you are in the smaller end of a size. I am about 5'8 and it comes to the top of my knees. You could always pair it with bike shorts or capris if you want more modesty.
