Grand Courtyard Fountain

After searching for months for a pretty fountain I finally found the Grand Courtyard fountain on Serenity Health and was blown away! After purchasing the fountain it was even prettier in person. I like that it is easy to assemble and lightweight.

Attractive Fountain, But With Some Maintenance

We purchased the Sunnydaze 80" tiered fountain in May 2021, and overall, it's a beautiful piece that draws a lot of attention. Each fall, we disassemble it and reassemble it in our barn without water to allow it to fully dry before any potential freezes. In early spring, I inspect it and seal any hairline cracks with a commercial-grade roofing caulk before final setup. The biggest issue we've faced is the excessive splashing from each tier, which makes it hard to conserve water within it. I experimented with multiple solutions: I cut 2" & 4" PVC tubes slightly taller than the water line for each tier—these reduce splash and stay in place, but aren't very attractive. I also tried filling each level with light blue ping pong balls to create a splash barrier, but they tend to float away with the upper-tier water flow and get blown out. What worked best was crafting chicken wire rings that sit about ½" above the water, wrapped in a poly fabric that absorbs and retains the splash. It's not perfect, but it's functional. To keep algae away in humid weather, I place a bromine tablet in the top and bottom tiers. So far, I haven't seen any signs that bromine damages the fountain, though I still repair a few minor cracks each season as a precaution. I also tried copper pipes for algae control in the first year, and while they worked, they required constant cleaning to stay effective, so I started using bromine. And we don't have plants under or near the fountain. A tip for setup: you can use non-wood shims to adjust the tiers slightly so the water flows evenly all around. And we added an affordable remote control to turn it off and on from inside the house. All in all, it's a great-looking fountain that does require a bit of annual maintenance and creativity to manage splashing. But if you're willing to put in a little time each season, it's absolutely worth it for the visual appeal.
