I have owned this lens for several years. It's my go to lens that I have used for portraits, weddings, landscape and general photography. In combination with the D3x I currently use, it gives me excellent quality images that can enlarged and cropped as needed.

This is truly an excellent lens. It is very sharp, and the large aperture – compared to many zoom lenses— is a real plus in low light situations. This is my main lens. If I have to carry just one lens, this is the one I choose. I have used it in situations ranging from general shots at basketball games, to car shows and family pictures. It’s always nice to know that if a picture needs copping, this lens will not be the limiting factor. As many have reported, this is a heavy lens. That’s the price you pay for a lot of glass. The result is superb pictures. I use a good, load distributing neck strap on my D300. That helps a lot. I have only experienced a couple small negatives with this lens. I have noticed a tiny bit of the gold flakey material that some people have reported, but it has not been a problem. Sometimes the zoom seems a bit tight, but again it’s not a problem. I feel this is the best lens I have ever owned – most of which have been Nikons.

I’ve been using a few of the Nikon consumer level lens for years and wasn’t really happy with the inconsistent performance and always trying to use them at their sweet spot. Because of that I would use my 50mm f/1:4D for sharpness and consisted output. Needless to say, prime lenses are always great, but sometime you need some versatility, so I decided to see what all the buzz was all about and check out a pro grade lenses - the 24-70mm f/2:8 was my first step. I can honestly say this lens is really good. It’s not the sharpest of the Nikon line-up but its is very sharp and very consistent throughout it’s zoom and f-stop range. I can now confidently use a zoom lens without worrying about a sweet spots – it’s all sweet. Yes it’s pricey and a bit heavy, but if your photos matter to you and you can only afford one really good zoom lens, this is a good recommendation. I’m very happy with it. Yes, it doesn’t have VR, but it’s not an issue for me.

I recently purchased the AF-S Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8G ED lense with a new D300S. I have used it in a variety of environments and it is an incredibly sharp lens, including edge-to-edge at it widest angle. It is heavy, but the extra glass pays off in the crispness of the pictures. The photos I've made with this lens have that extra bit of sharpness that I think all photographers are always looking for, including sharp, accurate colors. While color accuracy may be more a function of the camera than the lens, a good lens certainly plays a role. The speed is great. This lens is clearly a step up from the prior Nikon lens of similar focal lengths that I had for my D70S, which was itself a very good lens. The manual fine focus ring that is functional even when the camera and lens are set to full autofocus modes takes a little getting used to--it is easy to touch it and throw an autofocus setting out of focus. This will be the lens that stays on my camera 85% of the time and will the only lens I carry when I can take only my camera and one lens.

amazing images... super sharp, fast focus and use in all kind of photography.. if you use DX format..never mind...to much money for crop sensor. FX user. best midrange zoom ever. needless to say, The only downside is the weight.. If you can only get one lens to go with your new baby get this lens and treasure it as it won't let you down. I'm very happy and satisfied I finally bought it. The sharpness and speed focussing is amazing!... the second most used lens. was an essential part of every trip. Besides being my top travel and landscape photography lens, the Nikon 24-70mm has also served me well during various local photo sessions both in studio and outdoors environments. So, as you can see, it has seen a lot of abuse from me and knowing it inside out, I can speak of it with confidence. i have the 14-24 too but love this lens because you can attach filters, and the 14-24 don't.

This lens provides consistent high quality and detailed shots. I use this for weddings, portraits, and commercial head shots. It provides the flexibility to get closeups yet can produce excellent wide angle shots necessary for larger groups. I love this wide-angle zoom lens. It is absolutely clear at all focal lengths. I would not hesitate to recommend this lens to any serious photographer. One of it's attributes is it's weight. It provides great stability. It reminds you that you are the great photographer you are. As far as looks are concerned, it communicates professionalism that you would expect from the Nikon name. The gold lettering on the lens is classy, as is the fact that there is only one option switch on the lens; Manual or Auto Focus. All other options are on the camera. It's clean, effective, and professional. I use this lens as my mainstay on a D700. The full frame shots are amazing. There is never a hesitation with this lens, and I've never found it to be slow or sloppy. While it's an investment, it pays great dividends by consistently producing super clear shots for you and your customers.

There is huge visually noticable difference between shots made with this lens (and the 70-200 f2.8 VR) and my old stanby lenses that I about fell out of my office chair. My "good pictures" have become "great photographs". I now own both this and the 70-200. I sold my favorite lens of all time, a 24 mm prime, on a website. I'll never go back. You will get these two lenses from me when you pry them out of my cold dead fingers. One more note. If you are like me and constantly read pro blogs and photo how-to books you will see most of the pros say something along the lines of "I don't use mid range zooms, I use wide angle for landscaps and long telephoto for close ups". I bought that for a while until I started looking closely at the metadata for photos they exhibit on their websites and books. Check it out, 6 times of 10, the lens is shown to be a 24-70 zoom. I use this lens almost exclusively for landscapes and lifestyle photos. I rarely go to a wider angle unless trying to make a visual "statement". So, here's one pro who says "I USE MID RANGE ZOOMS", and the Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 is usually the one on my D3 when I pick it up.

I swallowed hard about 8 weeks ago and bought this lens. It is EVERYTHING it is advertised to be and then some. It is tack sharp for real photography -- corner to corner. I don't want to argue with any of the gang that shoots brick walls. Camera lenses are for taking photos. This lens is a quantum leap above the 24-120mm lens it replaces in my bag. (That one was pretty darned good on the D200/DX format, but it lost serious ground in the larger format.) While I'd like to have seen a little more range on the long end and VR as well, this lens has been on my D700 about 80 percent of the time since I unpacked it. The combination of the constant f-stop and the D700 capability at higher ISOs perhaps obviates necessity for the VR feature, but I see it on the 16-35 f4. In addition to the overall sharpness of the lens I am impressed with the way it controls flair and the way it renders colors. In summary, the Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8 makes me rethink any consideration of cutting corners on lenses. I will never purchase anything but the top of the line if I can afford to do so. If I can't, I'll save and wait. This is the perfect main lens for the full frame format.

I have have always wanted a lens that would do the things that I wanted to do. I hate being inhibited by my equipment. I own other nikon lenses in this range but felt that they did not focus fast and as sharp as I wanted. I read almost all reviews of the lens I could get a hold of. I spoke to a few pro-photographers. No one had anything bad to say about this lens other than its heft. It IS a heavy lens, but you get used to it. The weight no longer becomes an issue once you feel the sheer joy of using this lens. It focuses fast, real fast. The image this lens produces is amazing. I own the Nikon 18-70 lens and let me say that this lens does not even compare to the sharpness and ease of use of the 24-70mm lens. It took me over a year to make the purchase. This was going to be my first pro level lens and to be frank, its a lot of money to put out there for an amateur photographer. But I finally bit the bullet and purchased the lens. I do not regret every penny I paid for it and wondered why I bought all the other lenses first. BUY THIS LENS. YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!! I included a picture just to show you what this lens can do even in the hands of an amateur!

finally broke down and got a 24-70. id put it off a long time bc i had other midrange zooms. after alot of use, they all broke so i was at a dilema . so i broke down and got it. and now i am honestly regretting that i didnt get it a long time ago. in comparison, i have a 50 1.8, and a 85 1.4, and thus far, all my photos at 2.8 are better than my other at f4. Af speed is almost equal to my 85, but significantly quieter. weight, it is a little heavy, but i am use to carrying a 70-200 also, so it isnt that bad. build quality is awesome. lens feels solid. lens hood is a little tricky to get on and off, but once on, its not going anywhere. overall so far i am extremely pleased with its performance. especially after doing a side by side comparrison with my 50 and 85. if you have the money, just do it, you wont regret.
