Sham- no Geiger-Müller tube nor other detector

I've worked at nuclear plant and national lab and own a few geiger counters and survey meters. Some friends and I noticed this $12 meter and so I volunteered to buy it to see if it worked and to compare readings with my serious devices. Very low end geiger counters have a glass mini-tube inside, about the size of a two inch long thick pasta noodle. None of my test sources made a reading on this device which was suspicious, so I opened it up. There was circuitry for the display, charging, sound and a programmable chip.... but no Geiger-Müller tube nor any solid state detector. This device is a sham, just a chip to give random readings.
