I needed a surface big enough for my iPad in its keyboard case/stand and space for papers and room to write. This is the perfect size and black patterned surface is attractive. Lap desk arrived intact and cup holder is very secure, unlike other reviews. Item has no defects and folds easily. I can use this on the couch or sitting in bed. Cup holder too small for my huge coffee mug (I just put a on top of this area), but will accommodate beverage can or bottle. Got this at a fantastic price, too!

The fold out legs are great but they're rounded so the desk rocks back to front and it's hard to keep things on the lap sturdy without tipping over. Also. there's a crack in the top lacquer and it's going to chip inevitably which is a bummer. Also, the cup holder and device holder pop out from the grooves super easily which will result in those wearing out quickly. I don't recommend simply because the rounded legs make the desk unsturdy. The potential is there but I'm sure there's better options out there, though the price point of this desk was attractive.
