This jug does keep cold things cold %26 hot stuff hot. For that to happen, the cap needs to go back on firmly. I put the cap down, didn't tighten it and my soup cooled. When I next had chili in it and the cap was secured,. still hot for the 2nd %26 3rd helping. It's a beast, keeps my drinking water cold all day, cap screwed on. There was still ice, after 6 hours
