I got the 1 1/2 inch Revlon flat iron to replace my 5 year old 1” Revlon flat iron that is still going strong. For reference: I am 56 years old with long slightly greying auburn hair with blonde highlights. I wash and condition my hair every 1-2 days with argan oil shampoo and conditioner, blow it dry, then run a flat iron over it to smooth out the waves and frizzies. This new flat iron features a floating plate, which means that the plates have a spring like action when pressed together. It definitely makes for less pulling on my hair. The plates get ultra hot to the point that on its hottest setting, I couldn't touch my hair afterward. So I turned it way down and that was more than enough to get the job done in less than half the time of my 1” flat iron. I would highly recommend the 1 1/2” for longer or thicker hair, as it really takes just one swipe and there is no need for multiple passes. There is a switch to turn it on and a dial to adjust the temperature. I prefer these mechanical features over the press and hold buttons on older versions. It heats up super quickly and has the automatic shut off feature in case I forget.
