Under-rated power handling capabilities. Give more
Very "nice looking" speaker. Great speaker wire terminals. Honestly ... I'm not sure what the deal is with this speaker. It just doesn't hit as hard as I hoped it would. I even built a tuned ported box matching the recommendations of the manufacturer. I think there is two possibilities.... A: The speaker is way under-rated on power handling and you need a minimum of 900 watts or B: It just doesn't hit as hard as other 12's I've had. I took the time to remove my Alpine amp that was certified 698 watts and bought a Recoil that pushed 900 watts RMS. I think it got a tiny bit louder... but still just not that impressed to be honest. For a comparison, I had a cheap amazon 12" speaker that sold for $79 but could only handle 600 watts...that speaker hit super hard at around 500 watts. This thing takes every drop of 800 watts to get the same volume level out of it than that cheap amazon 12 (don't get me wrong ... that amzon speaker won't take 500 watts without stinking out the car after 5 min of loud music) . I don't have a bigger amp to supply over the 900 watts RMS that this speaker claims to max out at to test my theory of it being under-rated... but I got a suspicion that, that's the case. If you decide to go with this speaker... get a 1200 watt RMS (min) amplifier and push this thing... I think it needs a little more wattage to perform. In all honesty, I think I should have bought the 2-ring magnet version and it probably would have been more efficient for my amp that I had or even the new one I now have.
