Choosing the right vegetable container can help extend freshness. Look for containers with airtight lids and removable colanders to allow for drainage and airflow. Stackable designs save space, and BPA-free materials are safer for food storage. Many containers are also dishwasher safe for easy cleaning. Using a produce saver with adjustable vents can help manage moisture, which is key for keeping veggies crisp. Consider your fridge space and the types of vegetables you store to find the best fit for your needs.

• Wash and dry: Clean vegetables before storing, but make sure they're dry to prevent mold.
• Use produce containers: Place veggies in containers with lids and colanders to keep them fresh and separated.
• Adjust vents: If your container has vents, use them to control humidity for different veggies.
• Stack efficiently: Stack containers to maximize fridge space, but avoid overcrowding to allow air circulation.

Proper storage can help reduce waste and keep your vegetables tasting their best.

Plastic containers are commonly used for vegetable storage and can be safe when they're BPA-free and designed for food use. Look for containers labeled as microwave and dishwasher safe for added convenience. Airtight lids help prevent spoilage, and removable colanders can keep veggies dry. Avoid using plastic bags for vegetables that need airflow, as excess moisture can cause them to spoil faster. Always check the manufacturer's instructions for care and use.

• Leafy greens: These can wilt quickly in sealed plastic bags due to trapped moisture.
• Mushrooms: They need airflow and can get slimy in plastic.
• Potatoes and onions: Store these in a cool, dry place outside the fridge, not in plastic.

Using containers with vents or colanders can help keep produce fresh by allowing air circulation and reducing moisture buildup.

Most vegetable containers are dishwasher safe, making cleaning easy. If washing by hand, use warm soapy water and a soft sponge. Remove colanders and lids to clean all parts thoroughly. Rinse well and let them air dry before refilling. Regular cleaning helps prevent odors and keeps your containers ready for fresh produce. Always check the care instructions for your specific container to avoid damage.
