The Surface Pro 5, officially known as the 5th generation Surface Pro, was first released in 2017. This model introduced several updates over previous versions, including improved battery life, a quieter fanless design on some configurations, and enhanced performance. If you're considering a pre-owned or restored Surface Pro 5, it's helpful to know its release year to better understand the technology and features you'll be getting. While it may not have the latest hardware, it can still be a solid choice for everyday tasks and light productivity.

The Surface Pro 5 originally shipped with Windows 10 and has received regular software updates from Microsoft. However, as technology advances, older devices may eventually stop receiving the latest updates or features. It's a good idea to check Microsoft's official support page for the most current information on software updates and support timelines. Keeping your device updated helps maintain security and performance, but some newer features may only be available on more recent models.

Upgrading to Windows 11 depends on your device meeting certain hardware requirements. The Surface Pro 5 may not meet all of Microsoft's criteria for Windows 11, such as the need for a compatible processor and TPM 2.0. You can use Microsoft's PC Health Check tool to see if your device is eligible. If it isn't, your Surface Pro 5 can continue running Windows 10, which will still receive security updates for a period of time. Always back up your data before attempting any major upgrades.

The Surface Pro 5 is designed to handle a variety of everyday tasks like web browsing, streaming, document editing, and light multitasking. Its portability and touchscreen make it convenient for on-the-go use. While it may not match the performance of newer models for intensive applications, it can still be a practical option for students, professionals, or anyone needing a versatile tablet-laptop hybrid. Choosing a configuration with more RAM and storage can help improve your experience for daily use.

The Surface Pro 5 is compatible with a range of accessories to enhance your experience. Popular options include detachable keyboards, stylus pens, wireless mice, and protective cases. Many accessories designed for earlier Surface Pro models may also work, but it's always best to check compatibility before purchasing. Adding accessories can help you get more out of your device, whether you're using it for work, school, or entertainment. Walmart offers a variety of compatible accessories to suit different needs and preferences.
