Choosing a lock for your storage case depends on what you’re storing and where you’ll use it.

• If you need quick access, consider a combination lock or a fingerprint padlock.
• For outdoor or heavy-duty use, look for locks with weather-resistant materials and sturdy shackles.
• If you’re storing valuables, a lock box or safe with a digital keypad can offer extra security.
• Always check the size and compatibility of the lock with your storage case’s hasp or latch.

Thinking about your specific needs can help you find the best fit for your situation.

Many storage cases and locks are designed for outdoor use, but it’s important to check the product details.

• Look for cases and padlocks labeled as waterproof or weather-resistant.
• Metal bodies and boron shackles are often more durable against the elements.
• Plastic storage bins with lockable lids can work outdoors if they’re made for heavy-duty use.

For best results, place your storage case in a sheltered spot and regularly check for signs of wear.

To keep valuables secure at home, consider using a lock box or safe with a combination or digital lock.

• Fire-resistant and water-resistant safes add extra protection for important documents.
• Choose a storage box that’s discreet and can be anchored or hidden.
• For smaller items, portable lock boxes are handy and easy to move.

Always keep backup keys or codes in a secure place and avoid sharing access unless necessary.

Resetting the combination on most lock boxes is usually straightforward, but steps can vary.

• Refer to the instructions that came with your lock box for the exact process.
• Typically, you’ll need to open the box, locate the reset lever or button, and set your new code.
• Make sure to choose a memorable combination and test it before closing the box.

If you’ve lost your instructions, check the manufacturer’s website for guidance or contact customer support.

Keeping your padlocks in good shape can help them last longer and stay secure.

• Regularly clean the lock with a dry cloth to remove dust and debris.
• Apply a small amount of lubricant to the shackle and keyhole if it starts to stick.
• Store padlocks in a dry place when not in use, especially if they’re not weatherproof.
• Check for signs of rust or wear and replace locks if they become difficult to operate.

Routine care can make a big difference in performance and reliability.
