Stoneware is a popular option for dinnerware because it's durable and has a stylish, handcrafted look. Many sets are resistant to chips and cracks, making them ideal for everyday use. Plus, stoneware often comes in a variety of colors and finishes, so you can match your dishes to your kitchen decor. Most stoneware dinnerware is safe for the microwave and dishwasher, which adds convenience for busy households. If you're looking for dishes that balance practicality with design, stoneware is definitely worth considering.

Stoneware and ceramic dishes are both made from clay, but stoneware is fired at higher temperatures, making it denser and more durable.

• Stoneware: Usually heavier, with a rustic or artisanal finish. It's great for everyday use and resists chips better than many ceramics.
• Ceramic: Includes porcelain and earthenware, which can be lighter and more delicate. Ceramic dishes may have a smoother, more refined appearance.

Stoneware plates are sturdy, but there are a few things to keep in mind.

• They can be heavier than other types of dinnerware, which might be a consideration for some users.
• Stoneware may not be suitable for sudden temperature changes, so avoid moving plates directly from the freezer to a hot oven.
• Some stoneware finishes can show utensil marks over time, depending on the glaze.

High-quality stoneware dinnerware is usually made with dense clay and fired at high temperatures for strength. Look for sets that are chip and crack resistant, have a smooth, even glaze, and are microwave and dishwasher safe.

• Handmade or reactive glaze finishes can add uniqueness and durability.
• Consistent thickness and weight help prevent breakage.

Caring for stoneware dishes is simple, but a few tips can help them last longer:

1. Wash them in the dishwasher or by hand with mild detergent.
2. Avoid exposing them to extreme temperature changes, like moving from the fridge to a hot oven.
3. If you notice utensil marks, gently scrub with a non-abrasive cleaner.
