A kitchen strainer is a handy tool designed to separate liquids from solids or sift dry ingredients. You’ll often use it to drain pasta, rinse fruits and veggies, or strain seeds from sauces.

• Fine mesh strainers are great for sifting flour or removing pulp from juice.
• Colanders with larger holes work well for draining pasta or washing produce.

The correct spelling for the kitchen tool is strainer. Sometimes, people might accidentally write "stainer," but that refers to something entirely different and isn’t related to kitchenware. If you’re searching for products to drain pasta, rinse veggies, or sift flour, look for "strainer" or "colander" in the kitchen and dining section at Walmart.

Choosing the right strainer size depends on what you plan to use it for:

• Small strainers (around 3-4 inches) are perfect for tea, dusting powdered sugar, or sifting small amounts of dry ingredients.
• Medium strainers (5-8 inches) work well for rinsing berries or draining canned foods.
• Large colanders (over 8 inches) are best for draining pasta, washing large batches of produce, or prepping meals for a family.

To keep your mesh strainer in great shape, rinse it right after use to prevent food from drying in the mesh.

• Use a soft brush or sponge with warm, soapy water to gently scrub away any stuck-on bits.
• For stubborn residue, soak the strainer in warm water for a few minutes before cleaning.
• Most stainless steel strainers are dishwasher safe, but always check the product details to be sure.

Yes, many kitchen strainers and colanders are designed to handle hot foods like pasta or boiled vegetables.

• Stainless steel strainers are especially heat-resistant and ideal for draining hot liquids.
• Plastic or silicone strainers can also be used, but make sure they’re labeled as heat-safe and avoid direct contact with very hot pots or open flames.
