Scratch notebooks stand out from regular notebooks thanks to their interactive pages. Many scratch notebooks feature coated sheets that let you create designs or reveal colors beneath using a stylus, which adds a creative twist compared to traditional lined or blank paper. Regular notebooks, on the other hand, typically serve as memo pads, sketchbooks, or journals for everyday writing and drawing. Choosing between the two depends on whether you're looking for a classic writing experience or want something more playful and artistic for creative projects or gifts.

It depends on the type of scratch notebook. For scratch art-style notebooks, the coated pages are designed for use with the included stylus, revealing colors underneath rather than accepting regular ink. Using pens or markers on these surfaces may not produce visible results and could damage the coating. For plain memo pads or sketchbooks labeled as 'scratch notebooks,' pens and markers usually work well, but always check the manufacturer's instructions to make sure your writing tools are suitable for the paper type.

• Gently tap the notebook over a trash can or recycling bin to remove loose flakes.
• Use a soft cloth or brush to sweep away any remaining residue from the page or surrounding area.
• If some flakes stick, try using a piece of sticky tape to lift them off without damaging the artwork.

Keeping a designated work area for scratch art projects can help make cleanup easier. Handling the pages carefully can also prevent excessive flaking and keep your notebook neat.

Scratch notebooks can be a great choice for kids' activities, offering hours of creative fun. The interactive nature of scratching to reveal colors or patterns encourages imagination and fine motor skills. Look for products that specify age recommendations and avoid giving small pieces, like styluses, to very young children. Always supervise younger users to ensure they use the tools safely. These notebooks can be ideal for art projects, party favors, or quiet time, making them a versatile option for families.

Many scratch notebooks include a stylus or scratching tool, but not all come with extras or replacements. It's best to check the product details or packaging information for what's included. If additional styluses are needed, some generic scratching tools or wooden sticks can often be used as substitutes. For specialty scratch pads, using the recommended tool helps preserve the surface and achieve the best results. Consider storing styluses securely to prevent loss and keep your projects going.
