The main difference is in the cooking surface and the results you get. A griddle is a flat, smooth surface—great for pancakes, eggs, or tortillas—while a grill has raised ridges that create those classic sear marks on meats and veggies. Griddles are perfect for foods that need even heat and a flat base, while grills let fats drain away for a smokier flavor. Both have their perks, so it really depends on what you’re planning to cook and the texture you want.

Most foods work well on a griddle, but there are a few exceptions.

• Very fatty meats can cause excess grease buildup.
• Foods that need open flames for flavor, like some BBQ recipes, might not turn out as intended.
• Anything that requires deep frying isn’t suited for a flat griddle surface.

Round griddles are super versatile! You can use them for:

• Breakfast favorites like pancakes, crepes, and eggs
• Tortillas, roti, and flatbreads
• Grilled sandwiches or quesadillas
• Sautéed veggies and stir-fries
• Thin cuts of meat or fish

There are two main types of griddles:

• Electric griddles—these plug in and heat up on their own, offering adjustable temperature controls and a nonstick surface for easy cleanup.
• Stovetop griddles—these sit right on your gas or electric burner and can be made from materials like cast iron, carbon steel, or nonstick aluminum.

Cleaning is pretty simple!

1. Let the griddle cool down first.
2. Wipe away any leftover food with a paper towel or soft cloth.
3. For nonstick surfaces, use warm soapy water and a sponge—avoid abrasive pads.
4. For cast iron, use a brush and hot water, then dry thoroughly to prevent rust.
5. Always check your griddle’s care instructions for the best results.
