Start by measuring your wall and how far you’ll view it from. Rectangular wall clocks on our site range from compact (~10–12 inches) to long, narrow pieces (~20–24 inches) and larger statement sizes (~27–28 inches). Pick a size that fits the open space without crowding nearby art or shelves.

• Proportion: Above a console or sofa, aim for a clock width that feels balanced with the furniture.
• Visibility: If you’ll read it from across the room, look for large numerals or bright digital displays.
• Check dimensions: Compare the listed height, width, and depth to painter’s tape or a paper template on your wall.
• Shopping tip: Use filters (like Large or Modern Wall Clocks), and check pickup or delivery options at checkout.

It varies by model. Many rectangular wall clocks are labeled “silent,” “non‑ticking,” or “sweep” movement, which can reduce or eliminate the audible tick—great for bedrooms, nurseries, or home offices. Other quartz analog styles may have a noticeable tick that some people enjoy for a classic feel.

• Silent options: Look for “silent” or “sweep” in the title or description.
• Digital displays: LED and LCD clocks don’t have moving hands, so operation is typically quiet.
• Placement matters: In very quiet rooms, even a faint tick may be noticeable; consider silent models for those spaces.
• Tip: If sound is a concern, review the product details for noise terms before you buy.

Some rectangular clocks are designed for humid or outdoor areas, but not all. Look for words like “weatherproof,” “outdoor,” or “waterproof” in the title or description. These models often have sealed cases or gaskets to help protect internal parts.

• Outdoors: Choose an outdoor/ weatherproof model and mount it in a covered spot to limit rain and direct sun.
• Bathrooms: Opt for water‑resistant or shower‑safe designs; regular indoor clocks may fog or fail in high humidity.
• Batteries: Keep battery compartments dry and replace batteries as needed, especially in temperature swings.
• Note: Always check the product’s stated use and operating temperature range.

Atomic clocks are designed to receive a time signal and auto‑set when in range. Setup generally involves inserting batteries, choosing your time zone (if available), and giving the clock time to sync. Signal reception can vary by location, building materials, and nearby electronics.

• Time sync: Place the clock near a window during initial setup to help reception.
• Manual setting: Some models also offer manual set modes—check the product details to confirm.
• Temperature: Clocks with temperature may show indoor readings, and some include a wireless sensor for outdoor data. Mount the sensor in a shaded, ventilated spot.
• Extras: Certain models add features like countdowns or moon phase; review the listing for specifics.

Use the hardware and mounting style the clock provides (often a keyhole or sawtooth hanger). Pick fasteners that match your wall type and the clock’s weight.

• Drywall: If no stud is available, use wall anchors rated for more than the clock’s weight.
• Studs or masonry: Screws into a stud or appropriate masonry anchors offer added support.
• Leveling: Keep the clock level; pendulum styles may need extra leveling clearance.
• Placement: Avoid high‑humidity spots unless the clock is rated for them.
• Safety note: Always follow the included instructions and verify the clock’s weight and dimensions before drilling.
