A pruning seal is designed to help protect tree and shrub limbs after they've been cut. When applied, it forms a barrier over the exposed area, which can help reduce moisture loss and shield the wound from insects, fungus, and harsh weather.

• It creates a waterproof layer.
• Helps minimize the risk of infection.
• Promotes a cleaner healing process for the plant.

While results can vary, using a pruning seal is a practical step in outdoor tree care, especially for fruit trees, roses, and bonsai.

There are several options available for sealing pruning cuts, but it's important to use products specifically formulated for trees and shrubs.

• Commercial pruning sealers are designed to be safe and effective.
• Some gardeners use natural pastes or waxes, but these may not offer the same protection.
• Paints or household products aren't recommended, as they might harm the plant.

Always check product labels for suitability and avoid anything that could block the plant's natural healing process.

Pruning sealers are intended to protect wounds, not to control growth.

• They don't stop new shoots or branches from forming.
• Sealers help reduce stress on the plant after pruning.
• Growth patterns depend on the tree's health and pruning technique.

If you're concerned about growth, focus on proper pruning methods and use sealers as a protective measure rather than a growth regulator.

Pruning seal is not the same as regular paint.

• It's formulated to be safe for plants and to create a flexible, breathable barrier.
• Regular paint can block air and moisture, potentially harming the tree.
• Pruning sealers are often waterproof and weather-resistant, designed specifically for outdoor plant care.

For best results, use products labeled as pruning seal or tree wound dressing rather than household paints.

Applying pruning seal is a straightforward process:

1. Make sure the cut is clean and dry.
2. Use a brush, paste, or aerosol spray as directed on the product label.
3. Cover the wound evenly, avoiding excess buildup.
4. Let the seal dry before exposing the plant to water or rain.

Always follow the instructions provided with your pruning seal for the safest and most effective application.
