Choosing the right size crate is important for your dog's comfort and safety. Measure your dog from the tip of their nose to the base of their tail, and from the floor to the top of their head. Add a few inches to each measurement to ensure your dog can stand up, turn around, and lie down comfortably. If your dog is still growing, consider a crate with a divider panel so you can adjust the space as they get bigger. Always check the crate's weight guidelines to match your pet's size.

Making your dog's crate cozy can help them feel secure.

• Use a soft, washable crate mat or pad for comfort.
• Add a favorite toy or chew to keep them entertained.
• Include a water bowl that attaches to the side to prevent spills.

Keeping your wire dog crate clean helps maintain a healthy space for your pet.

1. Remove your dog and all bedding, toys, and accessories.
2. Wipe down the crate with a pet-safe cleaner or mild soap and warm water.
3. Scrub any stubborn spots with a brush.
4. Rinse thoroughly and dry the crate completely before adding bedding back in.

Many wire and metal dog crates are designed for home use, but some can be used for travel if they're secure and fit in your vehicle.

• Check that the crate has sturdy locks and handles for easy transport.
• Make sure your dog is comfortable and familiar with the crate before traveling.
• For airline travel, look for crates specifically labeled as "travel crates" that meet airline requirements.

Replacement mats and some parts for dog crates are often available separately.

• Look for crate mats or pads that match your crate's size for a perfect fit.
• Check if the crate's manufacturer offers replacement doors, trays, or divider panels.
• Walmart's pet supplies section may have compatible accessories and replacement parts.
