Pound in edging refers to landscape borders that are installed by simply hammering or pressing them directly into the ground—no digging or trenching required. This makes setup quick and easy, especially for DIY projects. Most pound in edging is made from durable materials like plastic or metal and often features interlocking pieces for a seamless look. It's a popular choice for creating clean lines around flower beds, lawns, and pathways, helping to keep mulch, soil, and grass neatly separated.

The 3 inch edging rule is a landscaping guideline suggesting that your garden or lawn edging should be at least 3 inches tall. This height helps prevent grass and mulch from spilling over into flower beds or walkways. By following this rule, you can create a more defined border and reduce maintenance. However, the right height depends on your specific needs—some areas may benefit from taller edging, especially if you’re dealing with thicker mulch or uneven terrain.

• Plastic pound in edging is often the most budget-friendly option, as it’s easy to install and doesn’t require extra tools or materials.
• Rubber and imitation stone borders can also be cost-effective, especially if you’re looking for durability and a decorative finish.
• For DIY enthusiasts, repurposing materials like bricks or recycled garden borders can help save money. Just make sure whatever you choose is safe and suitable for your landscape.

Concrete landscape curbing is valued for its durability and ability to create a permanent, clean edge around gardens and walkways. It can withstand weather changes and heavy foot traffic, making it a solid option for long-term landscaping. However, installation is more involved compared to pound in or no-dig edging, and it’s less flexible if you want to change your layout later. Consider your maintenance preferences and design goals before choosing concrete curbing for your yard.

1. Start by marking the border where you want the edging to go.
2. Align the pound in edging pieces along your marked line.
3. Use a mallet or hammer to gently tap each piece into the ground, making sure they’re secure and level.
4. If your edging comes with stakes or connectors, follow the manufacturer’s instructions to lock everything in place.

This process is designed to be simple and tool-free, making it ideal for DIY landscaping projects. Always check the product instructions for specific details.
