Choosing a kitchen scale for baking depends on your needs and preferences. Look for a scale with precise measurements (down to 1g or 0.05oz) for accuracy. Consider features like a tare function to zero out container weight, an easy-to-read LCD display, and a surface that's simple to clean (like glass or stainless steel). If you bake large batches, check the maximum weight capacity to ensure it fits your recipes. Some scales offer multiple units (grams, ounces, pounds, milliliters), which can be handy for different ingredients.

Absolutely! Portioning scales are great for meal prep because they help you measure ingredients accurately and manage portion sizes. This can be especially helpful if you're following a specific diet or want to prep meals in advance. Many digital kitchen scales offer multiple measurement units and a tare function, making it easy to weigh each ingredient separately. Just place your container on the scale, zero it out, and add your food for precise results.

To clean a digital kitchen scale, wipe the surface with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid submerging the scale in water or letting moisture get into the display or buttons. For stubborn spots, use a soft sponge or a little dish soap, but steer clear of harsh chemicals or abrasive pads. If your scale has a removable tray or pan, wash it separately according to the manufacturer's instructions. Always dry the scale thoroughly before storing it.

Most modern kitchen scales offer multiple measurement units, including grams and ounces. This flexibility makes it easy to follow recipes from different regions or adjust to your preferred system. Some scales also include pounds, milliliters, or kilograms. You can usually switch between units with the press of a button, so check the product details or user manual to see which units are available on your chosen scale.

The tare function lets you reset the scale to zero after placing a container or plate on it. To use it, simply:

1. Place your empty container on the scale.
2. Press the "tare" or "zero" button to reset the display to zero.
3. Add your food or ingredients—the scale will now show only their weight.

This feature is especially helpful for measuring multiple ingredients in the same bowl or for getting accurate readings without including the container's weight.
