While some apps claim to help you measure your pupillary distance (PD) using your phone, accuracy can vary. For the most reliable results, it's best to use a dedicated PD ruler, which you can find at Walmart. These rulers are specifically designed for optical measurements and feature clear markings for easy reading. If you choose to use your phone, make sure to follow the app's instructions closely and double-check your measurement. For precise eyewear fitting, consult an eye care professional or use a PD ruler at home.

Yes, a PD ruler is designed specifically for measuring pupillary distance, which is the space between your pupils. Unlike standard rulers, PD rulers often feature clear, easy-to-read markings and may include millimeter increments for greater precision. Some PD rulers are made of flexible plastic for comfort during measurement, while regular rulers are used for general tasks like drawing or measuring objects. If you're ordering glasses online or need an accurate PD reading, using a PD ruler is recommended.

• Stand in front of a mirror with a PD ruler.
• Place the ruler against your brow, aligning the zero mark with the center of one pupil.
• Look straight ahead and measure the distance to the center of your other pupil.
• Record the measurement in millimeters.

It's helpful to ask someone to assist or take a photo for accuracy. If you're unsure, consider visiting an optical store for a professional measurement. PD is important for proper lens alignment in eyeglasses.

A pupillary distance that's off by 1 mm may not cause noticeable issues for most people, but it can affect how well your lenses align with your eyes. Slight discrepancies might impact comfort or clarity, especially for higher prescriptions. If you experience discomfort or vision problems, consult an eye care professional. For best results, use a PD ruler to get the most accurate measurement when ordering new glasses.
