Choosing the right oar length depends on your boat type and your rowing style. Here are a few tips to help you decide:

• Measure your boat's width: Wider boats usually need longer oars for comfortable rowing.
• Consider adjustability: Telescoping or adjustable oars can be a great option if you're unsure or want flexibility for different users.
• Check product details: Most oars list their length and recommended uses, so review those to match your needs.

If you're still unsure, visiting your local Walmart store can help you compare options in person.

Oars and paddles are both used to move boats, but they work a bit differently:

• Oars: Typically used in rowing, oars are attached to the boat with oarlocks and you pull them to move the boat.
• Paddles: Held in your hands, paddles are used for kayaking or canoeing and aren’t fixed to the boat.

Knowing the difference helps you pick the right gear for your activity, whether it’s rowing, kayaking, or canoeing.

Taking care of wooden oars can help them last longer and perform better. Here’s how:

• Rinse after use: Especially after saltwater trips, rinse with fresh water to remove residue.
• Dry thoroughly: Let oars air dry before storing to prevent warping or mildew.
• Store indoors: Keep them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
• Check the finish: Occasionally inspect for chips or cracks in the varnish and reapply as needed.

Many oars and paddles are designed to be lightweight and portable, making them handy for emergencies. Telescoping or collapsible models are especially useful as backup options for small boats or kayaks. Always check the product description to see if the oar is labeled for emergency use, and make sure it fits your boat’s oarlocks or paddle holders before heading out on the water.

Replacement parts like oarlocks, grips, and blades are often available for many oar models. You can check Walmart’s online selection or visit your local store to find compatible parts. It’s a good idea to know your oar’s brand and model when searching, as compatibility can vary. If you’re unsure, store associates can help you find the right fit for your equipment.
