Clay modeling tools come in lots of shapes and sizes to help with sculpting, carving, and detailing. You might find dotting tools for making textures, carving tools for shaping, cutters for slicing, and rollers for flattening clay. There are also stylus pens and ribs for smoothing your work. Depending on the set, you may get plastic or stainless steel tools, and some kits even include texture wheels and detail brushes. Each type helps you achieve different effects and finish your projects with precision.

• Start by wiping off excess clay with a damp cloth.
• If tools have stubborn clay stuck on them, gently scrub using warm water and mild soap.
• Plastic tools can often be rinsed easily, but metal tools may need a soft brush for cleanup.
• Dry all tools thoroughly to prevent corrosion.
• For tools used with air-dry clay, don't soak them for long periods—quick cleaning works best.

Most modeling tool sets at Walmart are versatile and work with different types of clay, including polymer clay.

• The designs usually suit both air-dry and oven-bake clay projects.
• Items like ball stylus tools, cutters, and texture wheels are great for shaping and detailing polymer clay.
• Just make sure to clean your tools between projects to avoid color mixing or residue.

If you’re new to clay modeling, look for sets with a variety of tools:

• Basic shaping tools and detail carving items help you try different techniques.
• Kits with storage bags or pouches keep everything organized.
• Plastic tools are lightweight and easy to handle, while metal tools offer precision.
• Consider kits with cutters and rollers for easier clay manipulation.

To keep your clay sculpting tools in good condition, follow a few simple storage tips:

• Store tools in a dedicated pouch or storage bag to prevent loss and keep them together.
• After cleaning, make sure all tools are entirely dry before packing them away.
• Keep them in a cool, dry place to avoid rust on metal tools.
• Avoid stacking sharp or pointed tools loosely to reduce risk of accidental injury.
