If you’ve forgotten your combination, don’t worry—there are a few steps you can try:

• Check for a backup: Some locks come with a combination card or you may have registered your combo online.
• Contact the manufacturer: You can reach out to the lock’s manufacturer for help. They may require proof of purchase or ownership and the lock’s serial number.
• Visit a local store: Some stores may help verify ownership and assist with unlocking, but this varies by location.

For security, avoid trying to force the lock open. If you’re unable to recover the combination, you may need to replace the lock.

Most combination locks don’t have a universal default code. If you purchased a preset combination lock, the code is usually provided on a card or sticker in the packaging. For resettable models, the default is often set at the factory (like 0-0-0-0 or 0-0-0), but you should always check your product’s instructions. If you can’t find the combo, look for documentation in the package or contact the manufacturer for guidance.

1. Turn the dial right (clockwise) several times to clear it, then stop at the first number.
2. Turn the dial left (counterclockwise), passing the first number, and stop at the second number.
3. Turn the dial right again and stop at the third number.
4. Pull up the shackle to open.

Always follow the instructions included with your specific lock, as steps may vary slightly between models. If the lock doesn’t open, double-check your numbers and try again.

1. Open the lock using the current combination.
2. Look for a reset lever or button—usually on the side or bottom of the lock.
3. Move the lever or press the button as directed in your lock’s instructions.
4. Set your new 4-digit code by turning the dials.
5. Return the lever or button to its original position.

Be sure to test the new combination before locking it. Keep your new code in a safe place for future reference.

Many combination locks are designed for both indoor and outdoor use, but it’s important to check the product details for weather resistance. Some models feature materials like zinc or stainless steel for added durability against rain and rust. If you need a lock for outdoor gates, sheds, or storage units, look for options labeled as weather-resistant or outdoor-rated. Regularly cleaning and lubricating the lock can also help maintain performance in outdoor conditions.
