Macrame projects usually use cotton cord, polyester rope, hemp twine, or recycled silk ribbon yarn. Cotton cord is popular for its softness and flexibility, making it easy to knot and shape. Polyester and polypropylene ropes are durable and come in vibrant colors, great for outdoor or decorative pieces. Hemp and jute twine offer a natural, rustic look. Recycled sari silk ribbon yarn adds unique texture and color. When choosing yarn, consider the thickness and texture based on your project, like plant hangers, wall art, or jewelry.

Macrame cord is typically thicker, sturdier, and made for holding knots and structure in projects like wall hangings or plant holders. It’s often twisted or braided for strength. Macrame yarn is softer, finer, and more flexible, ideal for smaller, delicate items such as jewelry or decorative accents. Yarn can be made from cotton, polyester, silk, or blends, while cord is usually cotton or synthetic. The choice depends on your project’s needs—cord for durability, yarn for softness and detail.

Macrame continues to be a favorite in the crafting world, with new styles and techniques emerging each year. Many crafters love its versatility for creating wall hangings, plant holders, bags, and jewelry. The trend has evolved, blending vintage and modern aesthetics, so you’ll find macrame featured in home décor, weddings, and DIY projects. If you’re looking for a creative hobby or want to personalize your space, macrame is a timeless option that’s still very much in style.

Choosing the right yarn thickness depends on your project’s size and style.

• Thicker cords (3-5mm) are great for sturdy items like plant hangers or large wall art.
• Medium cords (2-3mm) work well for smaller décor or accessories.
• Fine yarns (1-2mm) are ideal for jewelry or delicate details.
