A liner pot—also called a pot liner or planter insert—is a secondary container that sits inside your decorative planter, hanging basket, or window box. It helps manage water and soil while making planting and repotting easier.

• Protects planters and surfaces from moisture and soil stains.
• Supports drainage with pre-made holes or pairs with saucers to catch drips.
• Simplifies swaps for seasonal or rotating plants without disturbing your main container.
• Fits many shapes (round, rectangular, trough) and sizes for indoor or outdoor use.

Common materials include plastic inserts, breathable fabric liners, and coco-fiber liners—each with different moisture and airflow characteristics.

Pot liners come in handy in several everyday situations, both indoors and outdoors.

• Decorative pots without holes: Use a liner with drainage and pair it with a saucer to help manage excess water.
• Hanging baskets and window boxes: Liners help contain soil and shape the planting area.
• Seasonal displays: Swap plants or soil quickly without disturbing your main container.
• Protecting surfaces: Waterproof tray liners can help catch drips on shelves or window sills.
• Easy cleanup: Removing the liner makes end-of-season cleanout simpler.

Choose drainage-hole liners for airflow and moisture control, or waterproof inserts/saucers when protecting furniture or floors is the priority.

A good fit helps the liner function well and look tidy.

1. Measure your container: For round pots, note the inside diameter at the top. For rectangles or troughs, measure inner length and width. Check the interior depth, too.
2. Match the shape: Round, rectangular, and trough liners fit best when shapes align.
3. Select a slightly smaller liner: Aim for a fit that slides in without forcing—slightly under the interior measurements can work better.
4. Check capacity and dimensions: Review item details for gallons/liters and exact measurements.
5. Trim-to-fit options: Roll or splicing liners can be cut or adjusted to size.

If your pot tapers, measure near the top and a few inches down to avoid a tight spot.

Each liner material offers a different balance of moisture control, airflow, and ease of use.

• Plastic inserts: Durable and easy to clean. Many include drainage holes; some are clear, which can make it easier to monitor roots and moisture. They tend to hold moisture longer than fabric.
• Fabric (non-woven/felt): Breathable and lightweight. Airflow can support root health and may dry faster, which can be helpful for plants that dislike soggy soil.
• Coco fiber: Classic look for hanging baskets and window boxes. It supports drainage and aeration; for indoor use, some people pair it with an inner plastic liner or saucer to help catch drips.

Pick the material based on your plant’s moisture needs and where the pot will live.

Setup is quick, and a little care can extend the liner’s life.

1. Dry fit first: Place the liner in your container and trim, if needed, for a clean fit.
2. Plan drainage: If the liner has holes, add a saucer or tray indoors to help catch excess water. If not, consider a liner or insert designed to manage runoff.
3. Add potting mix and plant: Use a quality mix and avoid packing soil too tightly.
4. Water and test: Water gradually to observe drainage and adjust as needed.

• Cleaning: Empty soil, hand-wash plastic liners with mild soap, and let fabric or coco liners air-dry.
• Storage: Store dry and out of direct sun when not in use.
• Replacement: Swap liners if they crack, fray, or lose shape; matching diameter/length in item details can help you find a fit.
