For kandi bracelets, elastic string is the most popular choice because it’s stretchy, easy to work with, and comfortable to wear. Look for stretchy cords around 0.8mm to 1mm thick, which fit most beads and hold up well during everyday use. You’ll also find options like nylon, hemp, and cotton threads for different styles or projects. If you’re making bracelets for trading or gifting, elastic string makes it simple to slip on and off without needing a clasp.

Most kandi makers use string that’s 0.8mm to 1mm thick. This thickness is ideal because it’s sturdy enough to hold beads securely, but still flexible for easy knotting and comfortable wear. If you’re using larger beads, you might want a slightly thicker cord, while smaller beads work well with thinner string. Always check bead hole sizes before choosing your string to make sure everything fits smoothly.

The term kandi comes from the colorful, bead-based jewelry popular in rave and festival communities. It’s inspired by the candy-like appearance of the beads and the playful, creative spirit of the scene. Kandi bracelets are often traded as tokens of friendship and positivity, making them a fun way to connect with others. The name reflects both the look and the culture behind these unique accessories.

• Stretchiness: Elastic cords make bracelets easy to wear and remove.
• Durability: Choose string that won’t fray or break easily.
• Color: Pick colors that match your beads or add flair to your designs.
• Thickness: Make sure the string fits through your beads’ holes.

Shopping at Walmart gives you a variety of options, so you can find string that fits your style and project needs.

Yes, embroidery floss is a great option for making kandi bracelets, especially if you want vibrant colors and a softer feel. While it doesn’t stretch like elastic cord, it’s perfect for friendship bracelets or designs that don’t need to slip on and off. Just make sure to tie secure knots and consider adding a clasp if you want extra security. Mixing floss with other types of string can add texture and variety to your creations.
