Hydrangeas look great in vases with a wide opening and a sturdy base. Here’s why:

• A wide mouth gives the large, fluffy blooms plenty of space to spread out, preventing them from looking crowded.
• A heavier or stable base helps support the weight of the stems and keeps the arrangement from tipping over.
• Clear glass vases are popular for showing off the stems and water, but ceramic or textured vases can add a stylish touch to your decor.

Choose a vase that’s about half the height of your hydrangea stems for a balanced look.

To help hydrangeas last longer in a vase, try these tips:

• Trim the stems at an angle under running water to improve water uptake.
• Remove any leaves that will sit below the water line to prevent bacteria growth.
• Use clean, cool water and change it every couple of days.
• Keep the vase out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources.
• Consider adding floral preservative if you have it, but plain water works too.

These steps can help your hydrangeas look vibrant for as long as possible.

The "1 to 3 rule" is a simple guideline for arranging hydrangeas in a vase. It suggests that the height of your hydrangea stems should be about one and a half to three times the height of your vase. Here’s how it helps:

• Creates a balanced, visually pleasing arrangement.
• Prevents the flowers from looking too top-heavy or too short for the vase.

This rule is flexible, so feel free to adjust based on your personal style and the size of your blooms.

Here’s a safe way to prep hydrangeas for a vase:

1. Trim the stems at a 45-degree angle under running water to help them absorb more water.
2. Remove lower leaves so none are submerged in the vase water.
3. Fill your vase with fresh, cool water and add floral preservative if you have it.
4. Place the hydrangeas in the vase right away.

Some people gently submerge the entire bloom in cool water for 30 minutes to help hydrate the petals, but always handle the flowers gently to avoid damage.

Absolutely! Artificial hydrangeas are a popular choice for home decor because they’re low-maintenance and look beautiful year-round. Benefits include:

• No need for watering or sunlight.
• They won’t wilt, making them ideal for busy households or places with less natural light.
• Easy to clean—just dust them occasionally with a soft cloth.

Artificial hydrangeas come in a variety of colors and arrangements, so you can easily find a style that fits your space.
