Choosing the right size flippers helps you stay comfortable in the water and get the most out of your swim. Here’s what you can do:

• Check the size chart: Most flippers come with a sizing guide—compare your shoe size for the best match.
• Consider adjustable straps: If you’re between sizes or want a flexible fit, adjustable heel straps can help.
• Try them on with swim socks: If you plan to wear socks, factor that in when choosing your size.
• Look for a snug but not tight fit: Flippers should feel secure without pinching or causing discomfort.

If you’re shopping online at Walmart, look for detailed sizing info in the product description or customer reviews for extra tips.

Short and long flippers serve different purposes, so it’s good to know which fits your needs:

• Short flippers: These are great for swim training, helping you improve your kick and build leg strength. They’re also easier to pack for travel and offer more control in the water.
• Long flippers: These are typically used for snorkeling or diving, giving you extra propulsion with less effort. They’re ideal if you want to cover more distance with each kick.

Think about your main activity—swimming laps, snorkeling, or diving—when deciding which style works best for you.

It’s best for kids to use flippers designed specifically for their foot size and swimming ability. Adult flippers are usually too large and can slip off or cause discomfort, making swimming harder for younger users. Many flippers come in kid-friendly sizes and feature softer materials for comfort and safety. Look for adjustable straps or youth-specific options in Walmart’s selection to help ensure a secure and enjoyable fit for your child.

Taking care of your flippers helps them last longer and stay comfortable. Here’s how you can do it:

1. Rinse after use: Always rinse flippers with fresh water after swimming, especially if you’ve been in saltwater or a chlorinated pool.
2. Dry completely: Let them air dry in a cool, shaded spot. Avoid direct sunlight, which can damage the material.
3. Store properly: Keep flippers flat or in a mesh bag to prevent bending or warping. Don’t leave them in hot cars or damp spaces for long periods.

Following these steps can help keep your flippers in great shape for your next swim.

Flippers can be a helpful tool for swim training. They add resistance, which can strengthen your legs and improve your kick technique. Short-blade flippers are especially popular for lap swimming because they encourage a natural kick and help you build speed. Just remember to start slow if you’re new to using flippers, and take breaks to avoid muscle fatigue. Many swimmers find that mixing flipper sets into their routine adds variety and helps them progress in the pool.
